The bridge is made out of Macassar ebony inlaid, on the tie-block, with a flash of laburnum to echo the rosette. Earlier today, I positioned it on the soundboard and glued it into place. The clamps are now off but I’m going to be patient and wait until tomorrow before stringing up the instrument. It’s always wise to let the glue cure completely before putting a lot of tension on the bridge.

  1. Greetings!

Do you know where I could get some remnant pieces of ebony? I only need a small piece 1/4 in x 1/2 in x 2 in in size.

    Many thanks,

I don’t think that I can help much because I live and work in England and that’s where most of the suppliers that I use are located. However, I see that Stewart-MacDonald will sell you an ebony bridge blank for a few dollars which might solve your problem. (Go to their homepage – http://www.stewmac.com – and type ‘ebony bridge blank’ into the search box.)

    Best wishes
